Course Outline

The church Marketing Workshop is comprised of 12 video sessions ranging in length from 5 minutes to 25 minutes, a 100+ page PDF workbook full of accompanying homework and templates, and multiple downloads to kickstart your marketing efforts.

Session 1

Crash Course on Marketing

In addition to learning a practical definition of marketing and branding, we will dive into the history of marketing, learning why it is such a mess and how the principles of Redemptive Marketing can help your church.

Session 2

Process, Pitfalls, and Tips

You will learn how to avoid 15 common church marketing pitfalls, and how to set a sustainable foundation for your marketing efforts. We discuss everything from how to be direct, to remembering that Jesus did it without a website.

Session 3

Passion, Purpose, Plan

You will refine your church’s strategic foundation, clarifying who your church is and who you want it to be. But don’t worry, we won’t get bogged down in yet another, “Define your mission” seminar; we will move fast and avoid the fluff with an exercise called, “The Great Purge.”

Session 4

Defining Your Audience

A crucial part of church marketing is knowing who you are marketing to. You will learn how to uncover your neighborhood’s demographics, how to empathize with people who attend your church by creating personas, and how to define and choose your audiences. This is, by far, the most overlooked part of church marketing.

Session 5

Crystallizing Your Brand

You will define your core Brand Values and Brand Personality, setting the foundation for a beautiful Visual Identity. You will select one of 10 hand-picked color palettes, choose one of 10 downloadable font pairings, learn an effective process for designing a logo, and bring it all together with a Moodboard template. You will walk away with everything you need to create a stunning brand – by yourself or in collaboration with designers.

Session 6

Creating a Digital Ecosystem

In this session, you will begin building off the foundations you created in the previous five sessions. You will learn what a “Digital Ecosystem” is and why it’s important. This session will serve as a launching point for you to define how to use each marketing channel such as web, mobile, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, and email.

Session 7

Websites, Mobile, Blogging

You will learn how to best use websites for new visitors and members alike, how to think about mobile, and whether or not you should blog. Additionally, you will learn my web process – a similar process to what we run for multi-million dollar companies – which will help you create a usable and beautiful website.

Session 8

Facebook and Twitter

You will learn what Facebook and Twitter are good for, what they’re not good for, and how often you should be engaging on each platform. The workbook contains a Channel Strategy template, and you will also receive a Social Media Design template.

Session 9

Email, Internal Sites, Giving

Email is still one of the best methods for digital communications. You will learn how to create a strategy that increases open rates and reduces the time you spend writing and responding to emails. You will also learn why implementing an internal communications platform will make your life easier and make your church happier.

Session 10

Instagram and Photography

You will learn the best uses for Instagram and how often to post, and the included Social Media Design template will help you make the most of your Instagram account. You will also learn how to generate a body of reusable, high-quality photography for use across your marketing efforts.

Session 11

Video, YouTube, Vimeo

You will learn the best uses for video and common misuses. Additionally, you will receive guidance on YouTube vs. Vimeo. And, like all prior sessions, the Workbook contains a Channel Strategy template that will help you create an effective video strategy.

Session 12

Finalizing Your Marketing Plan

In the final session, you will bring together everything you learned into a highly actionable plan for daily and weekly engagement. You will create a Channel Map, a Digital Ecosystem Interaction Model, and a Content Calendar. Lastly, you will learn an effective process for incrementally bringing your marketing to life, and how to leverage volunteers to create and manage content.

Can I split the cost with another church?

Can I download the videos?

By default, videos are available via streaming, but they will be made available for download in special circumstances. If your request is approved, you will receive a link to download the files.

How does the "Money Back" thing work?

It's very straightforward: if you're not happy I'll do my best to make it right first. If I can't, I'll give you your money back. All I ask is that you delete the content once the refund is issued.

Do I need Photoshop?

Most of the templates are built in ubiquitous applications such as Excel, PowerPoint, or Keynote. However, the Social Media Design template are Photoshop files.
